Nitrous Oxide (A.K.A. laughing gas):
Inhalation sedation, also known as nitrous oxide or laughing gas, is historically the most widely used dental sedation technique by dentists. With Nitrous Oxide, you’ll breathe a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a comfortable nose mask. The gas has a euphoric effect which relaxes you.
• Least expensive
• Very few side effects
• Quick recovery: you can resume normal activities right away
• Highly effective for mild to moderate dental anxiety
• Ideal for short, routine dental procedures
• You do not need someone to accompany you during the procedure as with other sedation methods
An extremely common technique for dental sedation is oral sedation. It is easy and does not require the use of needles. You will be given a prescription pill which, taken about an hour before your appointment, will have you fully relaxed by the time you arrive at our office.
Intravenous sedation or IV sedation helps to manage moderate to severe levels of dental anxiety. With IV sedation, a combination of sedative drugs and analgesics are administered intravenously into your bloodstream. We work with board certified dental anesthesiologist Dr. Jay Patel to provide IV sedation services. Your providers will monitor your breathing, blood pressure, and heart rate throughout your appointment to keep you safe and healthy!
• Takes effect almost instantaneously
• Level and length of sedation can be easily controlled
• Recovery takes up to 24 hours with limited side effects
• Provides deep relaxation, pain relief, and partial amnesia
• Recommended for long and invasive dental procedure
Dr. Jay Patel
Dr. Jay Patel began his education in New Jersey at Rutgers University on an academic scholarship. From there, he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and was exposed to many specialties in the dental field, but none drew his interest as much as anesthesiology. He continued his post-graduate education at NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn and trained at a Level 1 trauma center. During this time, Dr. Patel completed over 1500 cases involving all levels of anesthesia and treated a broad spectrum of patients; including those with complex medical histories.
Following his anesthesia residency, Dr. Patel became Board-Certified by the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology. This merit is achieved by completing both a written and oral exam administered by a panel of Dr. Patel’s peers. Dr. Patel is dedicated to upholding the highest standard of care in his field, and becoming board-certified was a testament to that standard.
Dr. Patel was born and raised in New Jersey and is now focused on serving the area he called home growing up. He works with dentists in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania and is concentrated on delivering top quality and safe sedation services. Patients are screened preemptively to ensure that any potential complications can be anticipated and avoided. Dr. Patel hopes to usher in a new era of dentistry where fear can be eliminated from dental visits. He works with the pediatric population, special needs population, and severe dental phobics, where his skill set has proven invaluable.
In his spare time, Dr. Patel is an avid movie-goer, sports enthusiast, and enjoys traveling to new destinations with his family.
